How PonyBuy works
A buyer in China, a warehouse, and a box that eventually leaves
Most sellers on Taobao, 1688 and Weidian will not ship outside China and cannot take a foreign card. An agent solves that by being the local customer: they buy the item for you, receive it at their own warehouse, hold it, and post it on when you say so.
PonyBuy has been operating under that model since at least 2020 according to the copyright line in its own footer. The service it describes on its about page is purchasing, quality checks, storage, customs clearance and shipping.
Nothing in that list is unusual. That is the point of the next section.
What every agent does, including this one
If you are comparing agents, none of these is a reason to pick one. They all do all of it.
They buy it for you
Their staff place the order with the seller in Chinese and pay in yuan. You pay them.
They receive and inspect it
The item arrives at their warehouse, gets checked and photographed. PonyBuy states that items bought from 1688 are inspected against a different standard.
Official artwork for the inspection stage. Every agent has this step; the standard behind it is what differs. They store it while you decide
PonyBuy gives 90 days of free storage, counted from the point the item is stored. Consolidating several items into one parcel is where the real saving is.
They ship it and hand it to a courier
You pick a service, pay a deposit based on estimated weight, and the figure is corrected once the courier weighs the box.
The honest part
Why PonyBuy rather than another agent
Four things we can point at on their own site. None of them is a reason to ignore the section after this one.
Four platform marks in the search box
The written guide names Taobao, Tmall and 1688. The box itself shows more marks than that, including JD. If your item is on one of the extra ones, pasting the link is a two second test.
A message box with a real character budget
1000 characters attached to a single item, plus an image upload next to it. Plenty of interfaces make you send a separate ticket for this.
Extra Photo as an ordinary add-on
It sits in the value added services column on the order confirmation, rather than being something you have to ask for after the fact.
90 days of free storage
Counted from when the item is stored. The official guide also says that leaving items past the window without responding is treated as abandoning them, so it is a deadline as well as a benefit.
When you should use somebody else, or nobody at all
Three cases, and we would rather say them here than have you find out after paying.
The seller ships to you already. Plenty of larger stores do. Adding an agent adds a warehouse stop, a second freight leg and a wait, in exchange for nothing.
You are in a hurry. Purchase, domestic delivery, inspection and international freight are all measured in days, and the seller dispatch time is outside anyone control. If a date matters, this is the wrong route.
You want a guarantee about quality. Read the disclaimer on any PonyBuy listing: goods come from third party platforms and are not sold directly by PonyBuy, and using the service means accepting the risks it names. Any agent that promises more than that is promising something it does not control.
What it costs, in the order the costs arrive
Money leaves twice, and the second time is not fixed at the moment you order.
At the order: the item price plus the seller domestic delivery to the warehouse. On the confirmation page we captured, that domestic line was zero, which is common for sellers advertising free postage inside China but is not a rule.
At the parcel: an international shipping deposit calculated from estimated weight, the service you picked and your country, then a correction once the courier has weighed and measured the box. Any difference goes back to your PonyBuy balance.
Customs charges in your own country sit on top of both, and nobody in this chain sets them.
Frequently asked questions about the agent itself
Is PonyBuy a shop?
No. It buys from marketplaces on your behalf. Its own listing disclaimer says the products are from third party platforms and not sold directly by PonyBuy.
Which marketplaces does it cover?
The written beginner guide names Taobao, Tmall and 1688. The search box carries four platform marks, two more than that list. We describe both, because they disagree and we would rather you knew.
Can I talk to a person?
Yes. During purchasing there is an order enquiry route to the buying staff, and the site has a help centre and a contact page. There is also an official Discord.
Does this guide get paid if I sign up?
Yes, links to ponybuy.com are partner links. It does not change the content: this page contains three reasons not to use the service.
Other agents you will meet, and the one distinction that sorts them
Shop around and the names multiply quickly. The useful way to sort them is not by brand but by what the company actually does with your money, and PonyBuy's own help centre draws that line clearly because it sells both services.
A shopping agent does the buying for you. Money leaves your hands twice: once up front for the goods and the van ride to the warehouse, once later for the flight and the border. Three components make up the bill, and the help centre spells them out as the goods, the freight and the clearance. It is equally direct about the audience, which is anyone who never set up a marketplace or payment account in the first place.
Parcel forwarding does not buy anything. You buy it yourself, ship it to the company's warehouse, and pay only for international shipping and customs clearance. It suits people who already have the accounts, shop frequently, or want to haggle with sellers directly, and it is the only route for things that were never bought online at all, such as a gift from a relative. One detail catches people out: with forwarding, quality inspection is an option you have to select when you submit the order, not something that happens automatically.
Most well-known names in this market sell both, under different labels, at different prices. Knowing which one you are buying tells you more about what your money covers than any comparison of brands will.
